Project Overview:

The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development. 

Job Summary:

The Engineering Automation Coordinator – Plant Design & Piping is the project focal point for S3D, Navisworks, CAD standards, the MicroStation environment. The role ensures the project’s CAD environment is correctly configured, that deliverables comply with the Bechtel S3D & CAD Standard and client requirements, and that designers and drafters are supported in their use of the tools.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership 

Major Responsibilities:

Standards Governance & Client Requirements

  • Review the client’s requirements and determine the extent to which the client standard contradicts the Bechtel standard — the client standard always takes precedence.
  • Where standard configuration files are modified, produce a project CAD manual outlining how the standard is implemented.

MicroStation Connect Workspace & Workset

  • Create a MicroStation Connect workspace and workset for each project served by the office, using the standard office project as the template.
  • Define project text styles and dimension styles in the project DGN library where they differ from the standard DGN library.
  • Modify the standard MicroStation Connect configuration files so they match the project standard.

Drawing Production Standards

  • Ensure drawings are numbered using the Bechtel Standard Document Numbering Procedure.
  • Maintain the seed files (2D and 3D).
  • Confirm working units are set as per project requirements.
  • Maintain the minimum level structure and symbology and ensure the standard colour table is attached to all design files.
  • Maintain text and dimension settings, creating project-specific settings where required.
    Maintain common symbols and cells in the standard cell libraries.

Coordination, Support & Training

  • Liaise with the GBU discipline lead, Engineering Automation and PDP Automation team on standards, application setup and issues.
  • Support designers and drafters in their use of MicroStation, ProjectWise & S3D.
  • Coordinate with the Automation Lead on Information Management, integration and handover matters.
  • Escalate application faults, patches and new-version certification to Automation team.

Smart 3D (S3D)

  • Provide internal technical support for all users of S3D.
  • Bulk-load the initial catalogue data and set up the daily backup and clash / interference-detection processes.
  • Act as first point of contact for all S3D issues and concerns, maintaining regular contact with users in the host and satellite offices.
  • Create additional project-specific surface style rules and filters not delivered in the standard environment.
  • Monitor the 3D model for S3D data integrity and its referenced data.
  • Monitor the daily backup, IFC and work-share replication processes, and perform partial restores of plant and catalogue data when required.
  • Create SmartPlant Review (SPR) sessions and generate model reviews per project requirements.
  • Keep designers current on SP3D procedures and practices through project bulletins and meetings.
  • Coordinate the work-share transfer of drawings between host and site offices.
  • Coordinate creation of new S3D components in S3D with the spec team.
  • Generate and maintain the Clash Report.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience​

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in S3D, SPR, Navisworks & MicroStation administration.
  • Experience in plant design / drafting (typically three to four years) in an engineering job family.
  • Familiarity, as applicable to the project, with ProjectWise, Tekla, OpenRoads and SPPID.
  • Ability to set up and troubleshoot applications and support end users
  • Ability to provide training to users
