ES&H teams are comprised of three distinct disciplines that support our ESH Management System and processes at project sites and offices. These teams include environmental scientists, safety specialists, and industrial hygiene scientists. Collectively, they provide technical guidance and perform planning, risk assessment, inspections and monitoring, training, and data management.
Job Summary:
The Environmental Scientist helps develop and execute the environmental component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) program. Key activities involve administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position involves practical application of biology, ecology, chemistry, social sciences, and related disciplines for managing environmental aspects of a project or facility. The position reports to an Environmental Manager or ESH Manager. #LI-AE2
Major Responsibilities:
• Integrate environmental requirements into project planning, permitting, design, construction, commissioning and startup, and operations.
• Provide support in the execution of environmental permits, plans, and assessments.
• Monitor, and enforce environmental requirements for subcontractors, including onboarding, field verification, and corrective action management.
• Perform site assessments and survey to identify site conditions and develop mitigation and sustainability strategies to protect the environment and local communities.
• Provide technical guidance and support regarding mitigation measures pertaining to natural and cultural resources and communities.
• Support environmental risk management associated with hazardous chemicals, high purity systems, and simultaneous construction and owner activities typical of semiconductor fabrication facilities.
• Provides technical assistance within ESH teams and to other project groups regarding permitting, risk assessment, plan preparation, studies, and ESH program execution.
• Identify and track environmental issues, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder concerns.
• Participate in emergency response, and aids investigation and resolution of ESH incidents.
• Perform environmental monitoring, sampling, and inspections to confirm compliance with permits and project requirements and commitments.
• Prepare training documents and help with ESH training for project/facility employees and visitors.
• Participate in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors and subcontractors to advise them of environmental requirements that may affect their work.
• Assist other ESH team members in program execution, inclusive of safety and health.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college in an applicable technical discipline such as environmental science, ecology, biology, natural resources, or related disciplines.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Four or more years of experience related to applicable environmental sciences or regulatory requirements.
• Experience supporting semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or similar complex industrial projects is preferred.
• Ability to evaluate environmental risk and apply sound judgment in fast paced, high consequence construction environments.
• Ability to communicate environmental risks and requirements clearly to project leadership and client representatives.
• Experience with environmental impact assessments.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with computers for presentations, data management, and reports.
• Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and support multiple shifts.
• Valid driver’s license.
Additional Qualifications
• Demonstrated interest, training, and experience in applied sciences.
• Knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 Management System standards.
• Specialized technical skills and knowledge related to an applicable environmental discipline.
• Broad technical knowledge, science skills, and technical writing abilities.
