Project Overview:

Bechtel helps customers deliver projects of purpose that create a lasting positive legacy globally. These large, complex, and multi-disciplined projects create jobs, grow economies, and provide opportunities for local and regional communities. The Eva Copper Mine Project is a greenfield resource poised to become the largest new mine in Queensland, Australia. It is located in Cloncurry on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people. The Project is owned by Harmony, a world-class gold and copper mining and development company with assets in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. Bechtel is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the Eva Copper Process Plant and Non-Process Infrastructure. Bechtel is providing these EPC services across all disciplines and functions for this exciting capital project.

Job Summary:

The Area Superintendent - NPI will be responsible for the oversight of contractors’ works on a portfolio of remote Non-Process infrastructure to support the mining operations. Responsible for monitoring and advising on all appointed Contractor’s job site activities and ensure that the construction operations and contractor’s performance are in compliance with project ES&H, quality, schedule requirements, whilst maintaining effective relationships when interfacing with Direct hire teams  and stakeholders.

 

This role is offered on a FIFO basis, 2:1 to Cloncurry. Local applicants encouraged to apply. 

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership / Supervision (Discipline Supervision of superintendents supporting 50 to 100 craft or Responsible for Area/Facility) 

  • Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others, as assigned. (Direct Hire) 
  • Schedules work to be performed and reviews work accomplished by each craft. (Direct Hire) 

Planning / Productivity 

  • Determines workforce requirements.  
  • Coordinates established area operational plans.  

Tools, Materials & Equipment 

  • Oversees tool and equipment usage on the site.   
  • Manages the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the craft professionals have the tools they require to be productive.  

Safety & Quality 

  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.  
  • Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.   

Technical 

  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents 
  • Manages engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and  Craft Professionals. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Safety programs/engineering systems, principles, and methodologies,
  • National safety laws/regulations and regulatory agencies’ regulatory requirements and responsibilities,
  • Industry standards/current practices for safety/health and building codes and standards
  • Best management practices for minimising potential safety/health risks during project execution.
  • Strong Leadership skills with the ability to lead and influence Project teams in the project Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) program, inclusive of technical and administrative aspects; compliance activities; and processes and plans associated with design, fabrication and construction of temporary construction villages and permanent buildings on mine sites.
