Project Overview:
Mining and Metals:
Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.
Job Summary:
Focused on 4D/Digital Delivery support, the position develops and maintains the project's 4D construction models by linking the 3D BIM model with the Primavera P6 schedule to visualize, validate and optimize the construction sequence in support of the Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) strategy and Field Engineering. Acting as an integrator of construction information, you will connect Engineering (Smart 3D/BIM), Project Controls (P6, CWP/ROS dates) and Construction/Materials data flows (MAP → TeamWorks → P6 → 4D) for the ENTS project (truck shop, mining infrastructure) at Minera Escondida, Región de Antofagasta, Chile, a remote / high-altitude site, in compliance with the project's Model 4D/5D Development Plan, ISO 19650 / EIR and Bechtel's SWPPs, quality and safety standards.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops, updates and maintains the project 4D construction models by linking 3D BIM model elements to Primavera P6 schedule activities (Activity IDs, Start/Finish, ROS dates), using tools such as Synchro 4D, Navisworks and ModelBuilder.
- Produces 4D construction sequence simulations at L3/CWP and L4/IWP levels to visualize the Path of Construction, support constructability reviews and identify sequencing clashes and interface conflicts before they reach the field.
- Quality-checks the 3D model and the P6 schedule inputs, verifies geolocation, LOD, metadata integrity and version control of 4D deliverables per Appendix Q – 4D BIM Model Requirements.
- Supports the CWA / CWP / IWP AWP structure by mapping model components to the WBS and PDM codes and by keeping the 4D model aligned with the Model 4D/5D Development Plan (26801-220-G5I-GAB-001).
- Integrates and maintains the MAP → TeamWorks → P6 → 4D data flow (ENTS-26810), coordinating attributes/interfaces (e.g., XX_EIP_TEAMWORKS_INT_TBL) with Materials Management, Project Controls, DSCS and Engineering Automation; contributes to the ICD / Data Dictionary.
- Prepares 4D outputs and visualizations for daily/weekly look-aheads, morning reviews, safety risk identification and stakeholder communication.
- Works under the RACI defined in Appendix Q (Project Controls initiates the 4D process; BIM develops the model; Construction Management reviews), liaising with Digital Delivery / BIM 4D, Project Controls, Field Engineering and construction contractors (CC-01/02/03).
- Manages 4D deliverables through the Common Data Environment (CDE) and Aconex, ensuring traceability and compliance with EIR / ISO 19650 information-exchange requirements and frequencies.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Structural, Construction, Mechanical or related) or international equivalent; formal training in BIM/4D/VDC (or international equivalent) and 8–10 years of relevant experience or 12–14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- 4D BIM modeling: linking 3D model elements to schedule activities to build, run and analyze construction-sequence simulations (Synchro 4D and/or Navisworks TimeLiner).
- Primavera P6 scheduling fundamentals: activity coding, ROS/start–finish dates and L3/L4 schedule levels for 4D integration.
- 3D model / BIM handling: reading and interpreting 3D models and drawings, geolocation, LOD (100–500), metadata and model version control.
- Advanced Work Packaging (AWP): CWA / CWP / IWP structure, WBS and PDM codes, and Path of Construction sequencing.
- Data integration & flows: MAP, TeamWorks, DSCS and P6 interfaces; construction data attributes and quality (duplication, obsolescence, ownership / single source of truth).
- Information management: ISO 19650 / EIR, Common Data Environment (CDE), Aconex and information-exchange requirements/frequencies; ICD / Data Dictionary.
- Digital tools: Synchro 4D, Navisworks, ModelBuilder, Smart 3D, Primavera P6, TeamWorks, MS Excel and Power BI.
- Constructability, clash/interface detection in time, and 4D-based safety risk identification (look-aheads).
- ES&H awareness and Bechtel SWPPs / corporate procedures and QA/QC standards.
- Proven 4D/BIM construction-modeling delivery on EPC/EPCM projects (Grade 26).
- Demonstrated command of 4D tools (Synchro 4D / Navisworks) integrated with Primavera P6.
- Solid understanding of AWP/IWP and ISO 19650 / EIR information-management frameworks.
- Prior mining / heavy-industrial construction experience, ideally in Chile and at remote / high-altitude sites.
- Strong data-integration and coordination skills across Engineering, Project Controls and Materials Management, plus bilingual (Spanish/English) technical communication
