Job Summary:
The Module Yard Manager supports the OSM Manager in leading Module Yard construction activities, including subcontractor procurement, fabrication, assembly, storage, preservation and delivery of modules to the jobsite. This role oversees module yard subcontractor activities and provides leadership for the Bechtel field engineering, document control, planning, subcontract administration, ES&H, quality assurance, and material coordination interfaces.
The role manages large-scale offsite manufacturing, module fabrication, and assembly work in close coordination with engineering, procurement, subcontracts, construction, and commissioning teams. The Module Yard Manager supports the project’s safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives by ensuring OSM activities are planned, coordinated, and executed in accordance with the project’s OSM plan.
Major Responsibilities:
- Implement the subcontractor ES&H and quality control programs in accordance with contract requirements.
- Lead and oversee the Bechtel Module Yard field engineering, document control, and planning teams.
- Coordinate with the OSM Manager, engineering, procurement, subcontracts, construction, and commissioning teams to develop and execute an integrated offsite manufacturing plan.
- Plan, supervise, and direct construction activities supporting the project’s modularization plan, including module identification, specifications, procurement, transportation, and logistics for piping, structural steel, mechanical equipment, electrical systems, and instrumentation.
- Ensure assigned OSM skids and modules are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality requirements.
- Provide extended onsite oversight at module fabrication facilities, as required.
- Ensure construction quality assurance and control processes are established and maintained in compliance with design drawings and specifications.
- Develop and coordinate construction schedules, monitor module and site scope development and quantities, and track site readiness to receive modules.
- Resolve constructability, design, and procurement issues to support efficient project execution.
- Prepare and present reports on OSM construction status, progress, and performance to internal and external stakeholders and project sponsors.
- Provide leadership and champion the “Zero Accidents” philosophy.
- Maintain positive working relationships with the owner, onsite construction team, transportation and logistics team, project home office, and functional departments.
- Ensure subcontractor personnel complete all training required by the contract documents.
- Ensure subcontractor construction activities comply with quality and safety requirements and that all Module Yard work is completed on schedule and in accordance with the approved plan.
- Review and approve all subcontractor deliverables required by the scope of work and contract documents.
- Perform field inspections requiring extensive walking throughout the Module Yard; climbing ladders and scaffolding; working on elevated platforms, uneven surfaces, and in confined spaces; and occasional lifting.
- Maintain the physical ability to walk to and from project work areas.
- Use all required standard personal protective equipment for assigned tasks, including body harnesses and life vests.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, or international equivalent, with 10–13 years of relevant experience; or 14–17 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in construction, engineering, project management, commissioning, module yard operations, or offsite manufacturing.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proven experience managing complex, large-scale construction scopes and initiatives.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic construction environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of subcontract administration and the contractor and subcontractor responsibilities defined in subcontract documents.
- Understanding of project environmental, safety, and health requirements.
- Experience in the life sciences sector.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in offsite manufacturing and modular construction.
