Project Overview:

Ujina Growth Project: 

The mining area is located 185 km southeast of Iquique, at 4,400 meters above sea level, in Tarapacá Region. The main objective of Doña Inés de Collahuasi’s project is to increase the concentrator’s throughput capacity from an average of 170 ktpd to 210 ktpd. Currently, the awarded service corresponds to the execution of Package PG1 - the first of three packages contemplated for this project - which involves the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) of six flotation cells, and on-site support during the construction phase. Service for package PG1, which began on August 1, 2023, is a continuation of the study phase (FEL3) and is expected to be completed in February 2025. 

Job Summary:

This role supports and advises in the supervision and organization of the construction activities of the contractors, through coordination and advice with the Client responsible for CM within the area of responsibility.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Advising the review and monitoring of contractors' construction schedules and resource diagrams.
  • Advising the revision of the construction methods proposed by the contractors.
  • Supporting the monitoring of the planned and executed work methods, so that they are carried out safely and according to design.
  • Advising CM in the correct execution of the works by the Contractor, verifying the installation of materials and equipment in compliance with drawings, technical specifications, supplier requirements, approved procedures and quality standards of the project.
  • Applying the policies, procedures, as established by the risk management system. It promotes the effective application of the risk management system, supporting so that the activities have risk analysis, work permits, critical controls and preventive measures before and during their execution.
  • Supporting the implementation of the zero accident philosophy through visible leadership on the ground, participation in inspections, preventive observations and coordination with construction teams to correct substandard conditions and acts.
  • Advising to identify safety or quality deviations, timely communicates the findings and supports the follow-up of corrective actions until their effective closure.
  • Supporting in the monitoring of resource efficiency, so that the quantity and productivity is adequate for the activities to be developed.
  • Supporting construction personnel in the interpretation of engineering design documents, supplier documents and other technical documents.
  • Coordinating engineering solutions with CM.
  • Supporting and advise on the control of installed components to verify their technical compliance.
  • Using and taking advantage of the software and automation processes applicable by Bechtel, as applicable.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Higher level technician or Civil or Execution Engineer in Electrical or Mechanical specialty (or international equivalent) and 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in large-scale industrial projects, or professional in supervisory or construction management positions with 12 to 14 years of relevant work experience in large-scale industrial projects is required.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • An experienced professional with extensive experience, with a deep knowledge of his area of specialization, he solves a wide variety of problems creatively.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.
  • Establishes networks of contacts and relates to construction personnel and other disciplines, internal and external in their own area of specialization.
