CSA Designer

Mining and Metals: 

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.  

• Preparing 2D plant layouts and study drawings from which detailed 3D CAD design models and construction drawings are developed.
• Developing portions of 3D CAD design models under the supervision of experienced designers, preferably using the Smart 3D (S3D) platform.
• Preparing and updating concrete, steel, and architectural drawings, including details, sections, and other CSA-related drawings.
• Reviewing and checking design models, drawings, and documents prepared by other team members and material suppliers, as assigned.
• Preparing bulk material quantity takeoffs.Coordinating designs with designers and engineers from other disciplines to ensure consistency and integration across the model and project deliverables.
• Responding to client or construction team inquiries related to the assigned design scope.
• Collecting, maintaining, and referencing project drawing files, records, and document and drawing control systems in accordance with applicable procedures.
• Preparing basic discipline-specific designs in accordance with established criteria and procedures.
• Applying applicable industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, codes, engineering practices, and quality standards relevant to the discipline.
• Supporting and, when assigned, leading the technical work of less experienced designers or drafters involved in the same design effort.

• Solid knowledge of CAD design and drafting techniques, engineering drawing practices, blueprint reading, and reproduction methods used within the discipline.
• Experience in concrete, steel, and architectural modeling and documentation; proficiency with Smart 3D (S3D) and MicroStation is preferred.
• Familiarity with Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
• Ability to read, interpret, and utilize documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
• Knowledge of engineering and construction materials associated with CSA design responsibilities.
• Basic knowledge of applicable industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, and discipline-specific codes.
• Knowledge of mathematical formulas and design calculations used within the discipline.
• General understanding of the technical responsibilities of other groups involved in the overall design effort.
• Ability to coordinate interfaces, identify inconsistencies, and communicate questions or information requirements in a timely manner.
• Ability to guide the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters.
• Demonstrated experience in civil, structural, or architectural drafting and design for industrial or Mining & Metals projects.
• Hands-on experience with 3D models, 2D drawings, and CSA design documentation.Proficiency with CAD and modeling tools; experience with Smart 3D (S3D) is preferred.
• Working knowledge of engineering procedures, standards, codes, and quality control processes.
• Ability to review technical information, coordinate with other disciplines, and support less experienced team members.
