Job Summary:

This construction role supports the development all airfield infrastructure for the proposed new 3rd runway at Heathrow Airport. It involves the planning, coordination and preperation of key documentation to support the DCO planning process. The scope of works includes civil, mechanical and electrical systems, including a new energy centre, waste treatment facilities, and mechanical systems associated with the new terminal construction e.g. new baggage handling system, and the mech / elec services across the new runway and terminal campus.   

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leading constructability reviews to optimise construction sequencing, logistics, and methodology. 
  • Draft key construction methodologies to support the planning process 
  • Coordinate with engineering and design consultants to ensure construction requirements are   reflected in aligned design deliverables. 
  • Support the development of site layouts, temporary works strategies, logistics and phasing plans for construction in a live operational environment. 
  • Lead in developing overall construction execution plans, staffing strategies, and resource estimates. 
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain to develop construction packaging and delivery strategies. 
  • Ensure Zero Accident Philosophy / Quality considerations are embedded in all aspects of design and execution planning. 
  • Contribute to cost estimates, budgets, risk assessments, and progress reporting for construction scope. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.  
  • Knowledge of construction methods, procedures, and sequencing for civil and airfield works, including working within live operational facilities. 
  • Technical writing skills to translate plans and sequencing into documentation, 
  • Strong knowledge of HSE requirements and record of promoting a safe working culture. 
  • Significant experience as a Construction Manager/Senior Field Engineer or similar role leading the construction management function on major civil engineering infrastructure projects, holding responsibility for providing constructability advice during early stage  
  • development and design, and ensuring that works are delivered safely in line with the design 
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound technical leadership and problem-solving under pressure. 
  • Excellent understanding of implementation & constructability issues with respect to complex  
  • multi-discipline infrastructure or asset improvement projects. 
  • Excellent understanding of Health Safety & Environmental issues associated with the Construction industry. Good experience of addressing Health Safety & Environmental issues associated with the Construction industry highly desirable.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration. 
  • Experience in aviation, airfield, or major transportation infrastructure projects. 
  • Knowledge of UK construction and safety regulations, including CDM requirements. 
  • Experience with NEC contract administration and project delivery frameworks. 
  • Prior experience in planning and executing brownfield projects in live environments.
