Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers. There will be over 4,000 modules to be fabricated, erected and tested in FAB building alone.

Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

The Site Assembly Module (SAM) – Preassembly Field Engineer serves as the primary field engineering representative responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting site preassembly activities required prior to final module installation. Reporting to the Area Lead Modules Field Engineer (ALMFE), the SAM Preassembly Field Engineer ensures module components, commodity packages, and supporting systems are properly received, inspected, assembled, tested, and prepared for final installation in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, and construction schedules. This role works closely with Construction, Engineering, Quality, Startup, Logistics, Materials Management, Module Fabricators, and subcontractors to support efficient module execution and readiness for setting and completion activities. The position plays a critical role in identifying and resolving field issues early, coordinating work packaging and material availability, managing interfaces between commodities and modules, and ensuring preassembly activities are executed safely, predictably, and in support of overall project turnover objectives. The SAM Preassembly Field Engineer provides technical leadership within assigned preassembly work areas and supports the successful transition of modules from fabrication and delivery through final field installation.

Major Responsibilities:

• Support the SAM Preassembly Superintended in planning and executing site preassembly activities for assigned modules and commodity packages.
• Coordinate receipt, inspection, preservation, laydown, and readiness verification of module components and prefabricated assemblies arriving at the project site.
• Provide field engineering support for site preassembly of structural steel, piping, mechanical equipment, electrical components, HVAC systems, fire protection systems, and other module-related assemblies.
• Review drawings, specifications, BIM models, installation work packages, and construction work plans to ensure preassembly activities are executed in accordance with engineering requirements.
• Identify and resolve constructability issues, material discrepancies, dimensional conflicts, design clarifications, and field interferences prior to module installation.
• Coordinate field changes, RFIs, technical queries, and engineering support requests necessary to maintain uninterrupted execution of preassembly activities.
• Support quality inspections, ITRs, testing requirements, punch list development, and completion documentation associated with preassembled systems and equipment.
• Monitor subcontractor and direct-hire work activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and project safety standards.
• Coordinate with Materials Management, Logistics, and Supply Chain teams to resolve material shortages, damaged materials, missing components, and procurement needs affecting preassembly work.
• Support development and execution of work packages, installation plans, lift plans, preassembly sequencing plans, and turnover documentation.
• Utilize project systems and digital tools including BIM models, Navisworks, TeamWorks, Aconex, DSCS, Power BI, and construction reporting systems to monitor progress and communicate status.
• Participate in daily coordination meetings with Construction, Engineering, Quality, Logistics, Startup, and subcontractor organizations to resolve issues and maintain schedule alignment.
• Support module interface management activities to ensure successful integration between site-assembled components and final module installation requirements.
• Assist with system walkdowns, punchlist closure, turnover preparation, and handoff of completed assemblies to the module installation team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or international equivalent) and 3-6 years of related experience, or 6-9 years of relevant industry experience in lieu of a degree.
• Previous experience supporting field engineering, module assembly, construction execution, or industrial facility projects is preferred

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Understanding of modular construction and site preassembly execution processes.
• Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, work packaging, and field installation practices.
• Strong technical problem-solving and field coordination skills.
• Experience coordinating with Construction, Engineering, Quality, Materials Management, and subcontractors.
• Familiarity with turnover, completion, and startup processes.
• Working knowledge of BIM tools, Navisworks, Aconex, TeamWorks, DSCS, Power BI, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Ability to perform field inspections, participate in walkdowns, and work in active construction environments requiring PPE, climbing ladders/scaffolding, and extended site presence.
• Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
• Experience in semiconductor fabrication facilities is preferred.
