 Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

Major Responsibilities:

• Developing, coordinating, and reviewing electrical engineering deliverables for all phases of Project execution. 
• Performing and reviewing electrical system studies, analyses, and calculations, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting, arc flash, grounding, and protection coordination studies. 
• Preparing and reviewing technical documentation, including specifications, data sheets, calculation reports, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations (TBEs). 
• Participating in the design and specification of electrical equipment, substations, power distribution systems, grounding systems, lighting systems, and associated infrastructure, utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).  
• Coordinating electrical engineering activities with other disciplines, clients, suppliers, contractors, and construction teams. 
• Providing technical leadership in resolving complex engineering issues and evaluating alternative design solutions. 
• Ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry standards, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements. 
• Supporting procurement activities through technical evaluations, vendor document reviews, and equipment selection. 
• Assisting project and construction teams in addressing electrical engineering issues during design, construction, commissioning, and start-up. 
• Preparing or reviewing engineering studies, technical reports, proposals, and project documentation. 
• Developing material take-offs (MTOs), quantity estimates, and engineering inputs for project planning and cost estimating. 
• Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and designers. 
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, engineering procedures, design standards, and best practices. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor’s degree in Electrical Civil Engineering (or international equivalent), and minimum 10 years of relevant experience. 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• (Essential) Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, power system design, and industrial electrical infrastructure. 
• (Essential) Experience conducting power system studies using ETAP or equivalent software: Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor Starting, Grounding, Protection Coordination, Arc Flash 
• (Essential) Experience developing electrical equipment purchasing packages: specifications, data sheets, sizing calculations, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations. 
• (Essential) Experience preparing and reviewing Material Take-Offs (MTOs). 
• Knowledge of medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution systems, substations, motor control systems, grounding, lighting, and protection systems. 
• Strong understanding of applicable international standards and codes, including IEC, IEEE, NEC, and relevant Chilean regulations. 
• Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and provide practical engineering solutions. 
• Effective communication and coordination skills in multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM environments. 
• Familiarity with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and construction-driven engineering practices. 
• Intermediate to advanced English proficiency (written and verbal). 
• (Desirable) Experience with high-voltage systems and utility interconnections. 
• (Desirable) Knowledge of commissioning and start-up activities for industrial facilities.
