Project Overview:

The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations, develop work scope packages and support Superintendents for a project’s civil/structural aspects. You will actively engage in constructability reviews of civil/structural elements and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts independent Civil/Structural work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Civil/Structural engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit
  • Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil/Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDP), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAP) and Standard Work Processes and Procedures (SWPP) and Design Review Notices (DRN)
  • Reviews and approves key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries for the project to which assigned
  • Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering
  • Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements
  • Originates and checks complex Civil/Structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting
  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data
  • Leads field constructability reviews
  • Completion of field testing, inspections, and processing of related construction engineering documentation. Documentation will include various soil test records, construction completion records, as built drawings and non-conformance reports
  • Works with various functions to ensure the project achieves corporate goals set for environmental, safety & health, quality, cost, and schedule

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 6-8 years of relevant experience or 8-10 years of relevant work experience (CPEng preferred)
  • Experience in engineering of significant Civil or Mining projects in Australia

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures and the interaction with the other disciplines
  • Experience and proven ability to manage Civil engineering packages
  • Preferred experience in Geotechnical Testing and Analytical practices or Structural Field Engineering
  • Effective communication skills along with demonstrated supervision skills
  • Solid planning and problem-solving skills
