Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will develop and coordinate Process design deliverables for assigned studies and projects, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and related technical documentation. You will apply established design standards, procedures, and project requirements, exercising judgment in the development and modification of Process design information. You will coordinate with Process engineers, other design disciplines, and project functions to support accurate, consistent, and integrated engineering deliverables. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develops study drawings, detailed drawings and related Process design documentation in accordance with established procedures, design standards and project requirements.
  • Develops and maintains Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using SPPID, accurately entering and managing the required engineering data to ensure complete, consistent and reliable Process design deliverables.
  • Develops and maintains Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) using MicroStation, incorporating Process engineering information and applying the applicable project procedures, drafting standards, and document requirements.
  • Develops study drawings, detailed drawings, and related Process design documentation in accordance with established procedures, design standards, and project requirements.
  • Coordinates assigned Process design activities with Process engineers, other design disciplines and project functions to support consistent and integrated engineering deliverables.
  • Reviews and checks Process design drawings and documents for accuracy, consistency, completeness and compliance with the approved design basis and applicable drafting standards.
  • Incorporates engineering information, vendor data, design changes and review comments into P&IDs, PFDs and other Process design deliverables, identifying inconsistencies and coordinating their resolution with the responsible engineer.
  • Participates in design and reviews and incorporates agreed actions and comments into the applicable Process design documents.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, technical qualification in design or drafting, or international equivalent, together with 5–8 years of relevant design experience, or 9–12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Sound knowledge of Process design and drafting principles, practices, procedures and industry standards applicable to P&IDs and related design deliverables.
  • Advanced knowledge of SPPID to develop and maintain Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in accordance with applicable project procedures, drafting standards and engineering requirements, including the accurate entry, completion and maintenance of all required data within the platform.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development and maintenance of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), including the ability to interpret Process engineering information and use MicroStation in accordance with applicable project procedures and drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of other relevant design platforms and drafting tools, such as AutoCAD, AVEVA, or similar software, is desirable.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply Process engineering information, including process flow diagrams, equipment data, line data, instrument information, design criteria and vendor documentation.
  • Knowledge of P&ID symbols, equipment representation, line numbering, instrumentation conventions, design annotations and drawing presentation requirements.
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies, missing information and design interface issues within P&IDs, PFDs and related documents and coordinate their clarification with the responsible engineer.
  • Knowledge of document management, drawing numbering, revision control, checking procedures and the incorporation of interdisciplinary and client comments.
  • Ability to organize assigned design work, manage priorities and complete deliverables in accordance with applicable quality and schedule requirements, with minimal supervision.
  • A level of English is expected, with the ability to understand technical documentation and communicate effectively in design and project environments.
  • Right to live and work in country of assignment without sponsorship
