Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will use best practices for process/chemical design for Studies and Projects. You will work and develop the design for flow diagrams, P&IDs using standard tools such as MicroStation, SPPID, and others used in process/chemical for projects with unique requirements. You will be part of the Process Discipline Team and ensure that complex technical issues are resolved, clients are satisfied, and project needs are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard Process/Chemical design methods, techniques, procedures and criteria for project or assignment in support of a global business unit or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications.
  • Designing, developing, modifying, and evaluating components and processes used in process/chemical utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Preparing or assisting in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Performing complex system and diagram design, with focus in mineral processing for critical minerals.
  • Supporting safety, environmental and operability reviews (HAZOP, CHAP).
  • Providing technical assistance to other Process/Chemical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues.
  • Providing assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Process/Chemical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
  • Mentoring and assisting more junior Process/Chemical team members.
  • Supporting Process/Chemical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
  • Selecting components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires University degree is Industrial/Technical Design (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • You frequently use design tools and understand industrial standards. You add experience in using and optimizing designs. You understand technical English and can work with documents and designs with English instructions.
  • You have worked in an engineering environment and have been part of Study/Projects teams. Good knowledge of mineral processing from design is highly considered.
